In this post, I would like to introduce the EA core functions that a mature EA organization/department should perform. As you know that EA should be treated as a program and not as a project. EA program has its own business functions. Just like a HR department performs certain functions such as hiring, benefit management, payroll, health benefit, retirement etc, similarly an EA department also performs certain business functions.
Some of the core functions are listed below:
• EA Planning – blueprinting and road mapping
• Standard Management- defining standards to guide the architecture development
• Architecture Policy Management – defining policies that drive the architecture development
• EA Governance- architecture decision making through architecture governance
• Architecture Performance Management – metrics for measuring maturity of EA program
• Architecture Asset Management – maintaining the architecture assets such as blueprints, reference architecture, policies, patterns etc)
• EA communication – publishing materials to communicate with the stakeholders
• Technology Life cycle Management – technology introduction, retirement, investment etc
• Architecture Capability development – maintaining and training architecture skills
In the coming future posts, I will be taking one function at a time and discussing in details.
Let me know if you think any function is missing.
Enjoy.
